Search for MXML and ActionScript in Google Code Search

Now that Google Code Search allows for searches by file name, you can search for MXML and AS3 files. MXML files can be searched for by specifying file:.mxml$. You can search for AS3 files in a similar way, although it will search for AS/AS2 files as well, since the file extension is the same.

Here's an example of a MXML and AS search:

file:.mxml$ tabnavigator
file:.as$ displayobject

There's not a lot of results at the moment, but I expect that Google will improve that in time.

Brightcove Holiday Lights

Take a look at the top floor of One Cambridge Center:

I shall never divulge the names of the conspirators, but there was a number of people here working to get this done yesterday. It may need a video running out of the rest of the windows to make it MIT-worthy, but having the font look like the Brightcove font is a nice touch.

Tamarin, AS 3.0 Cookbook, and Jobs

A late congratulations to the Adobe team on Tamarin. A bunch of the team had been working hard on this in the Boston office, and it's great (and a little surprising) to see this unveiled. Hopefully I am linking to something not everyone has seen in a link to an interview with Dan Smith on artima.com.

In a late review, a thumbs up to the AS 3.0 Cookbook. I bought and have read snippets of this book, and I found it very helpful in rounding out my AS3 library knowledge. In an amusing Brightcove anecdote on this book, I told Sean Neville that I was interested to see that Sam Robbins reviewed the book, someone who I knew worked at Brightcove. Sean then told me to look across the hall, where Keith Peters sits, one of the authors of the book. Good to know!

And to mention for Brightcove again, we're looking for more great people at Brightcove. If you're in the Boston area and you're interested, feel free to send a resume to work AT brightcove DOT com. Or you can email me at bdeitte AT brightcove DOT com with any questions.

Full-Screen mode on Brightcove

Brightcove videos now have a full-screen mode. You can enable this by clicking the maximize box in videos, like in the fish-eating turtle one below:

Here's the video I originally wanted to embed in this post, but apparently I can't get the embed code on all videos on brightcove.com. I assume this is a publisher option, and hopefully more publishers will understand the importance of enabling this.

Brightcove in Newsweek

Jeremy Allaire has a excellent interview about Brightcove in Newsweek. Also, as long as I'm in the Brightcove-article-linking mood, I'll mention a lengthy post on what Brightcove is (and isn't).

Designing in Flex and Site Updates

I've asked a few questions lately on flexcoders that relate to creating a Flex application with a designer's help. I have some notes on how I've been approaching this, and I plan to post a blog item on this when I find the time so that I can share what I've learned and to hear how others do this.

If you've been on this site lately, you may have noticed some strangeness with comments and trackbacks. There's been some spam showing up when it shouldn't, some issues with counts, and one trackback that refuses to show up (from here). This all started after I updated MovableType, and so you'll see them for awhile, until I update again.

As for other activity on this site, the Embedding HTML and ASDoc posts are still getting comments and questions, and I'll continue to answer what I can there.
